Electric Porsche Cayman spotted on test drive – Will the presentation still come in 2025?

The electric Porsche 718 Cayman is slowly taking shape. We caught the new Cayman at the Nürburgring and offer you the latest pictures and information.

Porsche continues to work on its electrification. Now we have discovered the electric Porsche 718 Cayman on a test drive and a presentation in 2025 seems possible.

  • Electrification with battery behind the seats
  • No big design experiments
  • Probably with a 900 volt system and 80 kWh battery and 340 kW charging power
  • Two electric motors and all-wheel drive with up to 800 kW system output
  • Presentation possible in 2025

New Porsche 718 Cayman Electric – Design

Since Porsche took the current Cayman off the market due to stricter cybersecurity regulations, many fans have been eagerly waiting for the successor. This will be electrified according to Porsche's future plans and has now been spotted as a prototype on a test drive at the Nürburgring.

At first glance, you can see that Porsche has not dared to conduct any major design experiments with the successor. It is hardly distinguishable from its combustion engine predecessor and is similarly low on the road. Noticeable differences are especially in the front and rear lights. At the front, for example, the light signature of four elements familiar from the Taycan greets you, while at the rear you can make out very narrow lights.

On the sides of the electric Cayman, there are still air intakes behind the doors, but they seem narrower than on the combustion engine, contrary to the trend, the new Cayman still has traditional bow handles and no retractable handles.

At the rear, the rear spoiler will probably also be retained, but the apron has a new design. To what extent this is actually the final execution and not just camouflage cannot yet be clearly estimated.

New Porsche 718 Cayman Electric – Drive and Range

We do not yet have the exact technical details of the new Porsche 718 Cayman Electric. However, it is also becoming apparent that the new electric Cayman does not install the battery in the underbody, but instead places it behind the seats, so that the car has a better center of gravity. We can make some assumptions about the exact technical details based on the Mission R study.

The study had a 900-volt system, an 80 kWh battery and a maximum charging power of 340 kW. In terms of performance, Porsche gave the model two electric motors with all-wheel drive and up to 800 kW of system power, so that the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is possible within 3 seconds. The electric Cayman is likely to come onto the market with comparable values.

What it will look like in terms of range is also still unclear. Especially with the focus on performance, optimizing the range is unlikely to be a priority for Porsche.

New Porsche 718 Cayman Electric – Sales launch and price

There is no exact date for the presentation of the new Cayman yet, so we do not yet know when orders will be possible or how many euros the electric sports car will cost. With the sighting of the prototype, a presentation in 2025 seems possible, so that the new Porsche 718 Cayman Electric could then be launched at the beginning of 2026.

As soon as we know more, we will keep you posted.
